How to Use HARO

HARO (Help A Reporter Out) has been used for many years by countless bloggers, reporters and journalists who are looking to connect with expert sources (just like YOU)!  HARO is vital to brands who are looking to network with the best media outlets in their industry, and get media coverage for their brand.

Getting quoted or featured in the media gives positive exposure of your brand to audiences who you may not have reached yet. Here are a few simple tips on how to use HARO to effectively pitch your brand and your products.

Only Target Relevant Journalists

It is important to only target journalists whose interests and beats are related to your brand. This means you may need to do a bit of digging around with the post information!

Delete Unrelated HARO Emails

HARO sends out 3 emails a day everyday Monday through Friday. This can become overwhelming and your business inbox can quickly become cluttered. More often than not, a lot of the query’s in the emails are not going to align with your brand. Make sure to delete any unrelated HARO emails and flag related emails to best keep organized.

Response Time is of the Essence

Don’t focus on reading through and responding to every single query of every email HARO sends, instead read through HARO’s emails when you have time and focus on responding quickly to the query’s that best align with your brand.

Find a Compelling Angle to Pitch that’s Related to the Query

Don’t just pitch what your business does, instead find a compelling angle that’s related to the query in which you are responding to in order to peak the journalist's interest and stand out amongst other brands.

Keep Your Initial Response Short and Sweet

Make sure your query response is focused, direct and informative. It is important to provide enough detail for the journalist to be able to make a decision on whether or not your brand is a good fit, but the best responses are the ones that directly answer the query prompt.

Type Out Full Links

Unfortunately, hyperlinking text does not always send through in the correct format to the journalists, make sure to include the full link to ensure that the journalist will be able to access the information you are sharing.
