“Motherly Advice” - Work-life Balance

In honor of Mother’s Day, here is some “motherly advice” for business owners. One of the hardest parts of being an entrepreneur is maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Most people have hobbies outside the office and friends and family that they enjoy spending time with. So, what makes it so difficult to draw the line between work time and your own free time?

Work-life balance is a popular topic these days, especially as working remotely becomes more widely accepted and convenient for companies. Entrepreneurs tend to think about work 24/7, and can become very draining. When you’re so involved in work, it can be difficult to notice when you need to take some time out for yourself. Most of the time, you don’t notice how burnt out you are until it’s too late and you’re already feeling tired and unmotivated. Let’s break that habit and take care!

Here are some tips for creating a work-life balance that will allow you to get the work that needs to be done complete, but also gives you the opportunity to enjoy time away from work.

Focus on Equilibrium

Don’t focus on trying to balance everything out including your business and personal life. Personal problems will come up during work sometimes, and work problems will show up when you just sat down with your family for dinner. Each day will be different, so try to stay in the present moment and focus on what is important that day. We recommend reading "Find Your Unicorn Space” written by a mother - Eve Rodsky

Embrace Failure

To accomplish anything successfully takes practice. I want to be a great leader, a great sister, a great daughter, and a great friend. Sometimes I feel like I am failing in those roles. When I feel that way, I try to evaluate the situation and how I could have done better. It’s important to accept failure and learn from it because as long as you are doing that, you are growing.

Ask for Help

While you may feel like you are the best at most things, that doesn’t mean that you can do it all alone. You should always focus on your strengths that you can bring to the table, but then share the rest of the responsibility with others. This will not only help you but it will also grow your relationships.
