PressReady Goes Green

Earth Month is April and Earth Day falls on April 22nd - let this time honoring earth encourage us to reflect on what we are doing to make our planet a more sustainable place for the present and future. A sustainable business, or green business, is an organization that has minimal negative impact and even a positive effect on the global and/or local environment, helping perpetuate greener habits within our community, society, and economy. There are many different ways a business can become sustainable; reducing waste, using sustainable materials, using clean energy, and conserving water and waste whenever possible Read on for our tips!

  1. Reduce waste

Reuse that shopping bag to bring in your packed lunch in a reusable container. Instead of ordering food in, perhaps host a potluck event where everyone cooks at home and brings in their own containers to create a delicious bento box of shared food. Don’t forget to pack up the leftovers and compost old food whenever possible!

  1. Using sustainable materials

Lead by example, choose office supplies that are easy to reuse or recycle to put a stop to waste. Use paper for printing sparingly and don’t feel like you need unnecessary promotional swag materials at events that just ends up in a landfill. . Reusable coffee mugs, water bottles, umbrellas and shopping bags made from earth friendly materials are a better bet and help  you reduce waste before it can even begin.

  1. Use clean energy

If you work from home, put all of your electronics on a power strip. Take a moment to adjust your computer’s settings to optimize battery usage and hibernate after a period of time. Put your lights on a timer. Not only is this beneficial for the environment, but it also can save your organization money.

  1. Conserve water

Even as a small business, reducing your water usage can have a huge impact on the environment. Cleaning, pumping, and distributing water takes energy. To bring down your water usage, start by identifying any leaks on your property. If you own a business that depends on water, you can install low-flow water valves to help conserve the amount of water you use.
